Howzzzt is named for common (and uniquely) South African greeting. It’s kinda an enquiry as to the health of the other party, and kinda based on the weird sound cricketers make when they appeal to the umpire, but in reality it is neither of those things.
And that is almost exactly what this website is all about. We tell you all those essential things you need to know about South Africa to make a visit here safe, productive and fun – even if it is just a virtual visit by way of this website. We tell you why there are way too many petrol stations dotted about the landscape, and why all of them sell raw meat. We give you the vital linguistic clues which even a speaker of the Queen’s English will require to navigate our lingo. We’ll even tell you how to engage in illegal activities, and why you shouldn’t.
Mostly though, we’re just having fun telling you about ourselves. Us South Africans are proud of our quirks and we love showing them off to foreigners.
